Two interesting decks from Pro Tour 'topdecks'
I was browsing through (all four pages? why are they on separate pages?) of the Pro Tour top performing standard decks.
Two decks in particular caught my eye because of how simple they look.
Sometimes simple is best:
'Big' Red Devotion splash white
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
3 Frostburn Weird
4 Generator Servant
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Fanatic of Mogis
1 Purphoros, God of the Forge
3 Stormbreath Dragon
3 Scuttling Doom Engine
3 Mizzium Mortars
2 Shrapnel Blast
3 Hammer of Purphoros
3 Chained to the Rocks
3 Battlefield Forge
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
10 Mountain
Sideboard
1 Deicide
3 Nyx-Fleece Ram
1 Anger of the Gods
2 Banishing Light
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
3 Assemble the Legion
Generator Servant seems pretty cool, and this guy definitely built with that in mind (enabling turn 3 Stormbreath / turn 4 Scuttling Doom Engine without any fuss or muss).
Shrapnel Blast is kind of interesting, since five damage is a lot, and with Hammer and Doom Engine (5 artifacts), the 2-of Shrapnel Blast should be live more often than not.
With the full set of Goblin Rabblemaster alongside 3 Assemble the Legion in the sideboard, I can't help but wonder if we want more Purphoros to 'combo' kill people.
Good old Rock:
3 Nissa, Worldwaker
4 Elvish Mystic
4 Pack Rat
2 Scavenging Ooze
3 Courser of Kruphix
4 Lifebane Zombie
4 Desecration Demon
4 Thoughtseize
3 Bile Blight
2 Abrupt Decay
4 Hero's Downfall
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Temple of Malady
4 Llanowar Wastes
3 Swamp
3 Forest
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Mutavault
Sideboard
4 Duress
4 Doom Blade
3 Mistcutter Hydra
2 Golgari Charm
2 Pharika's Cure
This is the epitome of the Rock (just play a lot of your good cards). Worse than B/g or Jund Walkers? Very possible, but something about a simple/consistent decklist with the 4 Mutavault definitely appeals to me.
I'm not 100% sure the sideboard numbers work out, but I look forward to trying it out (jeez, 22 ticket Nissas? :( )
